Niti Aayog vice-chairman supports farmers’ bills; calls it ‘historic’

Extending his support to government agricultural reforms, NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar has urged the citizens to support the Central government in the ‘historic’ decision.

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar passed two agriculture bills – Farmers’ and Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 in the Lok Sabha on September 17.

Rajiv Kumar has praised the government efforts to provide freedom to Indian farmers to sell their output to whom they like and where they like. Taking to his official twitter handle, Kumar posted,

“Along with the continued assurance of the Minimum Support Price, India’s farmers will surely double their incomes in the coming period.”

Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar has assured that the bills are not going to override the Minimum Support Price mechanism rather they are intended to help small farmers to get better prices of their farm output.

However, despite several assurances, the government is facing protests from farmers across the country over these bills. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the food processing minister from Shiromani Akali Dal Party has resigned from Bharatiya Janta Party’s cabinet to represent her support with farmers.
