There was this book called “Gujarat Files.” It’s written by Rana Ayyub. It made her a darling of Modi-haters for it showed him in bad light on the matter of Gujarat riots.
Rana Ayyub wailed from every rooftop about the tapes she has and how nobody in India was willing to publish it. There was a much note interview of hers in Al Jazeera where she made the claim.
Well, Madhu Trehan, a journalist recently tweeted that Rana Ayyub had refused her offer to publish the tapes in an interview conducted by Trehan for Newslaundry.
“Rana Ayub repeatedly says she has offered her tapes to every single website and they have refused. In her interview with me for @newslaundry it is on video record I offered to publish her tapes and she refused.”
On Al Jazeera, Rana lamented no news organization, TV channel or website was willing to upload her so-called “tapes” on Gujarat riots.
Significantly, the Supreme Court of India also had trashed Rana Ayyub’s account in her book. It termed the book as based on surmises, conjectures and suppositions.
The bench said, “The Book by Rana Ayyub is of no utility. It is based upon surmises, conjectures, and suppositions and has no evidentiary value”.
Damningly, the judgement says there is likelihood of it being politically motivated.
“The way in which the things have moved in Gujarat post-Godhra incident, such allegations and counter-allegations are not uncommon and had been raised a number of times and have been found to be untenable and afterthought”, the court noted.
