Asaduddin Owaisi has offered a poll alliance to Mamata Banerjee, saying his party could help Trinamool Congress beat the BJP in the upcoming assembly polls.
Owaisi’s party All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) recently won five seats in Seemanchal region in Bihar assembly polls. Owaisi, in its wake, had announced his party would contest Bengal assembly elections.
Owaisi’s latest word has come after Mamata accused AIMIM of being “outsiders” who “will harass and terrorize people” and had urged the state’s citizens to “resist the outsiders.”
Earlier, TMC MP Saugata Roy had claimed that AIMIM had been set by the saffron party while speaking to Times Now. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had said Owaisi’s party would further polarize the society. He too had called AIMIM as BJP’s B team.
AIMIM is eyeing minority-dominated districts Malda, Murshidabad and North Dinajpur.
