Owaisi’s AIMIM to contest 100 seats in UP polls; ties up with Rajbhar’s Morcha





Asaduddin Owaisi intends to put his party AIMIM to contest 100 seats in the UP assembly polls due in early 2022. 

Owaisi has announced that he would tie up with Om Prakash Rajbhar’s Bhagidari Sankalp Morcha. He claimed there was no talk with any other party regarding elections or alliance. He said the application form for candidates has also been released. 

Several parties are working out their plans to take on incumbent BJP’s chief minister Yogi Adityanath. There are several fronts which have come up. Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj is keen for an alliance with AIMIM, Azad Samaj Party, Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party. Parties such as AAP, Shiv Sena and JDU too have announced they would contest the UP polls. Samajwadi Party and BSP neither are forming an alliance nor are looking to close ranks with Congress. 

In the 2017 polls, BJP won 312 seats while Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance yielded only 55 seats.
