While assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh is still some months away, parties have already started training guns at each other on various issues. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi visited Dargah Sharif at Bahraich to pay obeisance to medieval Ghaznavid general and Muslim invader Ghazi Salar Masud alias Ghazi Miyan last week. However, it has sparked a war of words between the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and AIMIM.
Ghazi Salar Masud was the nephew of barbaric invader Mahmud of Ghaznavi and was killed by Maharaja Suheldev in the fierce Battle of Bahraich in 1034 CE. Masud was known for his rampant killing of Hindus and destruction of Hindu temples.
UP backward class welfare minister Anil Rajbhar hit out at Owaisi and accused him of hurting people’s sentiments, especially those of the Dalit community, who revere Maharaja Suheldev.
“Owaisi’s visit to the dargah is an insult to Maharaja Suheldev, an 11th century ruler, who is said to have defeated and killed Masud in a battle at Bahraich in 1034 AD,” he said.
The BJP government in the U.P. was working to restore the pride of Suheldev by constructing a memorial and installing a statue at Chittaura in Bahraich, he said.
He also targets Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar, who worships Maharaja Suheldev for allying with AIMIM, claiming that it is an insult to the backward Rajbhar community.
