PDP is facing mass desertion: Youth wing chief is nabbed by NIA

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is battling desertion by party leaders with every passing day in Jammu and Kashmir. Not only that, another major setback for the party has been the arrest of its youth wing chief Waheed Parra by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Party president Mehbooba Mufti sees a conspiracy in all this against her party by the BJP, once it’s friend now turned foe.

On Thursday, the PDP suffered a major setback as three prominently party leaders resigned from primary membership of the party. Daman Bhasin and Fullail Singh were among the leaders who had worked closely with late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for very long. They were founder members of the party and were always interacted with mediapersons in the party office at Gandhinagar in Jammu.

In a letter addressed to Mehbooba Mufti, and duly signed by them all, besides some lesser known leaders, they said that the party has deviated from the path shown by her late father. As such, it was not possible for them to continue any longer in the party.

Responding to Parra’s arrest, Mehbooba said that he is being targeted as he is contesting the forthcoming District Development Council (DDC) elections. Raising doubts about the timing of his interrogation and subsequent arrest, Mehbooba said he was issued summons by the NIA a day after he filled his form for DDC elections from Pulwama.

It needs to be mentioned here that he has been accused of being involved with the rogue DSP Devinder Singh who was allegedly arrested for his links with terrorists. Singh was a part of the special group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police involved in anti-terrorist operations.
