Poll: China gaining stronghold over US govt and culture; Most Americans worried

Chinese influence is growing and a vast majority of Americans are worries, as per a national poll.

Eight-one percent of respondents to a Convention of States Action and Trafalgar Group poll conveyed so over Beijing’s influence over the US government, media and culture.

Interestingly, while more than 90 percent of Republican voters expressed their concern, some 71 percent of Democratic voters held the same view.

The survey involved 1,089 people and was conducted on July 12 and 13.

The CCP is “determined to undermine the United States’ interests through a battle of malicious influence,”said Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn) who introduced various bills aimed at countering Beijing’s infiltration of US institutions.

Americans, largely through the efforts of Trump administration, have exposed the various threats posed by the communist regime.

An example: When the trailer for the upcoming “Top Gun” sequel was released, fans noticed that the Japanese and Taiwanese flags were removed from the Navy patch of the leather jacket worn by Tom Cruise’ character.

Similarly, when actor John Cena, who stars in the latest “Fast and Furious” movie, apologised to fans in Chinese after he had referred to Taiwan as a country.

“The tools in their toolbox to influence our businesses, our academic institutions, our governments at all levels are deep and wide and persistent,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said during a Senate hearing in April.

Mike Pompeo, when he was secretary of state under the Trump administration, had said that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) were influencing the county school board members and local politicians.

Chinese consulates, grass-roots level groups and language centres such as Confucius Institutes work for the communist regime’s effort to infiltrate America’s civil and political institutions.

American universities are among the regime’s biggest targets.

“So many of our colleges are bought by Beijing,” Pompeo had said in the past, citing the deep financial ties between many American universities and China.

A 2020 investigation by the Department of Education found that universities received almost $1.5 billion in contracts and gifts from China between 2014-2020.

“The American people are greatly concerned about China’s malicious influence operations in our country, which goes to show they have much more sense than our political leaders and elites,” China expert Gordon Chang was quoted as saying.

“The apparent lack of alarm at the top of our political system means America is at great risk.”
