Pranab’s son rattled; wants to ‘vet’ excerpts of his father’s memoirs

Abhijeet Mukherjee, former Congress MP and son of late President Pranab Mukherjee, has said that “motivated excerpts” from his father’s book were doing the rounds of media without his consent. The publishers of the book had released some excerpts a few days ago as a teaser and pitched it as a sort of tell-all memoir.

He said that he wanted to vet the memoirs and asked the publishers to stop the release of the book. Reacting sharply to the demand, his sister Sharmishtha Mukherjee said he should not create “unnecessary hurdles” in the book release.

Abhijeet Mukherjee’s request came days after the release of excerpts from the book in which Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh have been blamed for the Congress defeat in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

“Since my father is no more, I being his son want to go through the contents of the final copy of the book before it’s publication as I believe, had my father been alive today, he too would have done the same,” he tweeted.

Only two hours later, his sister Sharmistha said: “I, daughter of the author of the memoir ‘The Presidential Years’, request my brother @ABHIJEET_LS not to create any unnecessary hurdles in publication of the last book written by our father.”

Taking a dig at him, she also tweeted: “Btw bro, the title of the book is ‘The Presidential Years’, not ‘The Presidential Memoirs’.”
