In a major success, Mohammed Ismail, a key terrorist of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), who was involved in the conspiracy and planning of the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, was killed along with another terrorist in South Kashmir’s Awantipora in Pulwama district.

The IGP further informed that Ismail Alvi was from the family of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation following inputs about the presence of terrorists there, a police official said. However, the search operation turned into an encounter after terrorists opened fire at the forces.

According to the intelligence agencies, Mohammed Ismail had infiltrated the Indian side in January 2017 and was carrying terrorist activities in Awantipora in Pulwama and Anantnag. Forces were engaged with him last year in March too but then he had escaped the security agencies.

Lt General DP Pandey, Chinar Corps Commander, congratulated the forces and said, “The importance of killing Saifulla alias Lambu is two-fold. It brings closure to Feb 2019 Pulwama incident. He was one of the masterminds for having trained a local, Adil, who blew himself up in an IED attack.”

Meanwhile, identification of the second terrorist is being ascertained.
