RSS worker killed in Karnataka: “Communal forces at work”

A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker was stabbed to death by unknown person in Sivhamogga, Karnataka on Sunday.

Harsha, 26, was reportedly chased and murdered last night in Shivamogga’s Bharati colony.

The situation is tense following the incident, the security has been beefed up in the city.

Mandya MP Sumalatha Ambareesh has said that some groups are provoking people in the state.

Meanwhile Karnataka minister Dr Narayana Gowda has said that the accused would be arrested soon.

“It is certain that he was killed by persons of other community. We have got definite clues. We are not sure yet whether the accused belong to PFI. At the moment it doesn’t look like the issue is connected to the hijab row. The matter is under investigation,” he said.

Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra met with the family of the deceased RSS worker in Shivamogga today morning.

“A group of 4-5 youth murdered him. I don’t know of any organisation being behind this murder. Law and order situation under control in Shivamogga. As a precautionary measure, schools and colleges in city limits have been closed for two days,” said Karnataka home minister Araga Jnanendra.

Following the murder, a large number of right-wingers gathered at the Megan Hospital and started to protest. At least four vehicles were burnt down by some miscreants and the police had to resort to lathi-charge.

Section 144 has also been imposed in the whole of Shivamogga Town and a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges.
The Karnataka Home Minister had on Sunday addressed a public gathering in Shivamogga where he had remarked that the people of the state need to be cautious of communal forces that are filling dirtiness in school kids.
