Isha Foundation founder Sadhguru disapproved Tamil actor Siddharth for his sexist and derogatory comment to ace badminton player, Saina Nehwal.
Sadhguru described Siddharth’s response as the ‘most distasteful and disgusting’ and added that Saina Nehwal was the ‘Nation’s pride’.
For unversed, Saina Nehwal in one of tweets condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘security breach’ in Punjab and wrote, “If the security of the PM of India is an issue then I’m not sure what is secure in the country.”
Responding to Nehwal’s tweet, Siddharth wrote, “Subtle cock champion of the world… Thank God we have protectors of India. Shame on you #Rihanna.”
Following this Tweet, several social media users called him out for his sexism.
Nehwal’s father, too, reacted to Siddharth’s statements. Speaking to media, Harvir Singh Nehwal said, “Whatever he (actor Siddharth) said is very wrong. He used very wrong words against Saina (Nehwal). We condemn his statement. He should apologise for it, no matter if he made these remarks intentionally or unintentionally.”
Saina Nehwal also responded sharply to his comments and said, “Ya I’m not sure what he meant. I used to like him as an actor but this was not nice. He can express himself with better words but I guess it’s Twitter and you remain noticed with such words and comments.”
National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Rekha Sharma also condemned Siddharth for his actions.
“This man needs a needs or two. Why this person’s account still exists? Taking it up with concerned Police,” tweeted Rekha Sharma.
The NCW is taking suo motu cognizance in the matter and is currently in the process of getting Maharashtra police to file an FIR against the actor.
