On Wednesday, The Supreme Court passed an interim order stating that there will be no Maratha quota for government jobs and college admission now.
They have referred the matter to a larger bench to determine the validity for the same. The Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde will take the call on the larger bench and their decision will be considered as the final verdict on the matter.
The three benches of Justice L Nageswara Rao, Hemant Gupta & S Ravindra Bhat also delivered that the Post Graduate admissions will remain unaffected of this interim order.
Maharashtra government has passed a law that gives an additional 16 percent quota in educational institutions and government jobs.
The Supreme Court has passed the interim order against the pleas challenging the orders from the High Court.
The Bombay High Court, in June last year, however, has cut down the quantum of quota remarking that it wasn’t “justifiable”. The court has said that the quota shouldn’t exceed 12 percent in the employment sector and 13 percent in education.
