Karnataka High Court’s hearing on the Hijab Row in a few schools of Karnataka would continue tomorrow after both sides presented their arguments today.

senior advocate Devdutt Kamat, who represented the petitioner, stated that wearing a headscarf is an important part of Muslim tradition.

While commenting on ‘hijab row’, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “We’re awaiting directions from Karnataka HC. I appeal to students to maintain peace and harmony. I’ve directed school administration to see there’re no clashes b/w students. Appeal to all concerned persons from outside not to make provocative statements.”

CM Bommai also directs concerned authorities to maintain law and order. He further added, “As I speak proceedings in the court are underway. I appeal to each and everyone not to provoke at this time. Congress is just putting false allegations on us. We will abide by the law.”

Reacting to the hijab controversy, Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh said, “SDPI-backed Campus Front of India is behind it. Complete details will be known after investigation. Law and order must be maintained in the state.”

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a group of Hindu students wearing saffron turbans and scarves protested outside the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College in Udipi, claiming that if hijab is permitted at college, turbans should also be allowed.

The Principal of MGM College in Udupi has announced a holiday until further notice following a protest between two groups of students over the wearing of hijab in classes.

The state government has maintained its position that students must adhere to the college’s dress code and not wear anything that interferes with integrity, equality, law, and order.
