Punjab’s chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi received a massive setback on Thursday when his nephew, Bhupinder Singh Honey, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. He is accused of running a multi-crore illegal sand mining business.
Honey is likely to be produced to a special court in Mohali. He had been summoned by the ED for interrogation on Thursday.
The ED reportedly had confiscated more than Rs 10 crores in cash besides gold and jewellery from his residence and others on January 18.
The ED searched properties of. People in over dozen cities, including Mohali, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Pathankot and Rupnagar.
A case had been filed against one Kudrat Deep Singh by the ED under PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) in 2018. Kundrat who owns a quarry in Nawanshahr, is said to be the main suspect.
