UP Dy CM in no mood to let go ‘Tandav’ web-series makers





After Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya lambasted on Wednesday and said that the makers and actors of the Amazon Prime web series Tandav had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and would face tough legal action.

“The creators and actors of the web series have committed the crime of disturbing social harmony and hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus,” Maurya said in a tweet in Hindi. “Tough legal action will be taken.”

A team of four police personnel has reached Mumbai for investigation following the registration of a case at Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow against the makers of web series and an officer of OTT platform Amazon Prime. The team is likely to question the cast and crew.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh today said in Mumbai that the UP police had indicated officially that their team will arrive for investigations.

While the Uttar Pradesh government was calling out the makers of Tandav, Samajwadi president Akhilesh Yadav that the Yogi government is creating a big fuss over minor web series. “What is Tandav? It is a minor series and UP government is creating a ‘tandav’ (a dance form associated with Hindu God Lord Siva) over it.”

Amid the intensifying controversy, the creators of the show had on Tuesday announced that they will “implement changes” to the content. “We did not intend to hurt or offend the sentiments of any individual, caste, community, race, religion or religious beliefs or insult or outrage any institution, political party or person, living or dead,” the director said in a statement.
