Watch: Ruturaj Gaikwad hit 43 in one over in Vijay Hazare Trophy

In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, Ruturaj Gaikwad created history as he smashed 43 runs in one over (including a no-ball) to reach his double ton in the quarter-final of the tournament against Uttar Pradesh. In the match against Uttar Pradesh, Gaikwad equalled the world record for most runs in a single over of a List-A game.

UP bowler Shiva Singh was at the receiving end as Gaikwad hammered him for seven sixes in one over. Singh committed a mistake by bowling a no-ball and also conceded a six off it.

After hitting four sixes in a row, Gaikwad smashed a no-ball for another six. It was a captain’s knock from Gaikwad – who scored 43 runs off the over – the joint-most expensive over in List A cricket history.

The incident happened in the 49th over bowled by left-arm spinner Singh – which included a no-ball as well.

Gaikwad has joined an illustrious list of Sir Garfield Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh, Ross Whiteley, Haztratullah Zazai, Leo Carter, Kieron Pollard and Thisara Perera, who all have hit six consecutive sixes in an over.

Gaikwad, who scored 220 runs off 159 balls, helped Maharashtra post a total of 330 runs in 50 overs. Gaikwad’s knock was studded with 16 sixes and ten fours.

In 2018, a combined effort from Brett Hampton and Joe Carter, off Willem Ludick, for Northern Districts against Central Districts, also produced a similar result as the bowler conceded 43 runs in a Ford Trophy game.

Gaikwad has been one of the most consistent batters for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Indian Premier League (IPL).
