Yogendra Yadav had invited himself into farmers’ talks with the Centre: Denied

Yogendra Yadav, with his credibility in tatters in last few years, couldn’t attend the meeting between the farmers and the Centre on Tuesday.

It’s learnt that Yadav tried to invite himself in the meeting bu the Centre turned it down.

The government’s stance was that any political person associated with the negotiations with the farmers’ unions was not welcomed.

Yadav had tried to pass himself on as a farmers’ representative.

The farmers’ union had asked for representatives other than from Punjab in order to make it look like all-India based movement. They had thus proposed four names in the delegation in addition to the 32 representatives from Punjab.

This four representative included— Gurnam Singh Chaduni from BKU Haryana; the national president of the Rashtriya Kisan Mazdur Mahasangh Shiv Kumar Kakka from Madhya Pradesh; the general secretary of the All India Kisan Sabha Hannan Mollah; and Swaraj India president Yogendra Yadav.

Yogendra Yadav had later claimed that it was home minister Amit Shah who had “personally objected” to his presence.

“Though the farmers union decided that the invitation to the meeting would be accepted only if the four representatives were also added to the delegation, I was informed that Amit Shah personally objected to me being a part of it. The government said that I was political. The farmers’ union were ready to boycott the meeting but they went ahead with it on my insistence,” Yadav said as quoted by the Indian Express.

However, it is learnt tht many farmer leaders from Punjab also didn’t want Yadav in the meeting. As per The Hindu, many Punjab farmer leaders were upset at Yadav trying to shift the protest venue to Burari grounds.

The next round of meeting between the Centre and the agitating farmers’ leaders would take place on Thursday.
