After the initial shock of the second wave, Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in the country with a population of 24 crores, is now fighting back to stave off the covid crisis by ramping up Remdesivir and oxygen availability.
What should come as a great relief to critical Corona patients across the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that patients in state-run and private hospitals would be provided and administered anti-viral Remdesivir injections free of cost.
While the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government didn’t even set one oxygen plant in the last six years, Yogi Adityanath revealed that his government established 32 such plants in the state in 4 years.
Even though the state does not face any primary shortage of this life-saving medicine, the government has been continuously trying to increase its supply. Earlier this week, CM had directed the Health department for urgent procurement of 25,000 Remdesivir from Ahmedabad.
As many as 1,800 vials of Remdesivir will be provided to all the districts in the state.
The government has also instructed medical colleges across the state to purchase Remdesivir from its resources. The dispensary-wise internal distribution of this drug will be given to Uttar Pradesh Medical Supplies Corporation Limited by the director-general of Medical and Health Services.
At the same time, Corona patients in home isolation are provided medical kits comprising key medicines for a minimum period of seven days.
Beyond that, ahead of the vaccination drive starting for the citizens above 18 years of age, the government has placed an order for 1 crore doses of anti-COVID vaccines (50 lakh doses of Covishield & Covaxin each).
The state considerably has a huge population compared to Delhi but unlike Delhi, it didn’t delay in medical services and end up with fatalities which itself is more lethal than a virus.
Despite reporting 35,000+ cases, the state records lesser deaths. While Delhi reported nearly 350 deaths and Maharashtra saw the number reaching 832, Uttar Pradesh reported 249 deaths on Sunday.
The second wave has taken a toll on the country, but the Delhi government is busy shifting the responsibility to the Central government. Despite the Centre increased its allocation of oxygen, the Delhi government did not pick it up and continued giving advertisements in the newspaper that they do not have tankers to facilitate the supply of oxygen.
