Journalist Rajeev Sharma

Delhi Police special cell in an Official Secrets Act case has arrested freelance journalist Rajeev Sharma, a resident of Pitampura in north-west Delhi for passing sensitive information to the Chinese intelligence.

As per a report, Indian law enforcement agencies have accused Chinese intelligence of running an espionage racket. Along with Rajeev, Delhi police have also arrested a Chinese woman, Qin Shi, and her Nepalese associate, Sher Singh.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (special cell) Sanjeev Yadav in his statement informed “A Chinese woman and her Nepalese aide have also been arrested for paying Sharma large amounts of money routed through shell companies.”

The Delhi Police have also claimed that Chinese Intelligence Agencies had reportedly asked for ‘sensitive information’ and has offered a whopping amount of money in return. He ostensibly was passing on defence-related classified material.

Police have also seized several mobile phones, laptops, and other sensitive material from the site.

Sharma was arrested by the special cell on September 14 and presented in the Delhi Court next day. The senior officials have said that the investigations are still going on and a joint team of Central Intelligence Agencies and Delhi Police special cell is currently questioning Sharma.

Sharma had earlier worked with a news agency and one prominent newspaper. He also wrote columns for several publications and ran a YouTube channel. His main area was foreign and strategic affairs.

In August, the Income Tax carried out raids on several Chinese nationals living in Delhi. During the probe, they arrested Charlie Peng aka Lou Peng, who entered India illegally in 2014, for bribing monks living in Majnu ka Tila so that he could enter the core group of Dalai Lama.
