Attack on Nadda: Home ministry summons top police brass of Bengal

The Ministry of Home Affairs decided to step into the after the ruling Trinamool Congress showed a very casual behaviour atthe incident.

On Thursday, Nadda along with BJP leaders Dilip Ghosh and Kailash Vijayvargiya was on his way to the Diamond Harbour to attend the party’s organizational meeting when the convoy in which he was seated was attacked. The video of the assault that went viral on social media showed windshields of the convoy shattered as stones were thrown at it.

Home minister Amit Shah condemned the attack and said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party TMC is answerable to the people of West Bengal. He said the Central government is taking this attack “very seriously”.

“Today, the National President of BJP JP Nadda was attacked in Bengal. The attack is condemnable. The central government is taking this attack very seriously. The Bengal government will have to answer to the peace-loving people of the state for this sponsored violence,” Shah tweeted.

Speaking on the action taken, BJP senior leader Kailash Vijayvargiya said that it becomes necessary for them to take the action as the attitude shown by the Bengal government was very callous.

Earlier also West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh has written a letter to Amit Shah and Mamata Banerjee mentioning that there was a security lapse during the party president’s visit. He alleged that there was no security personnel present at his events on Wednesday.

Besides BJP leaders, West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar also condemned the attacks and launched a scathing attack on the chief minister accusing that under her government, the law and order of the state have worsened.

Governor further stated that she has to follow the constitution. “She cannot depart for its paths. The law-and-order situation in the state has been continuously worsening for a long. The events that happened yesterday are most unfortunate. They are a slur on our democratic fabric,” he added.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal Police has released a statement stating that the BJP chief reached the venue safely and they have also ordered an investigation to find out the ‘actual happenings.

Amidst all this, Mamata Banerjee and her party have accused the BJP of planning the ‘staged attack’. Targeting BJP, she said, “You have so many CRPF, central force, how someone would attack your convoy? BJP is doing drama. They don’t have any work to do.” TMC MP Mahua Moitra also hit out at the BJP with the same accusations saying that Thursday’s attack was planned by the BJP and that is why their security could not foil the attack.
