Ayodhya airport to be named Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram Airport

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given his nod to the proposal to rename the airport in Ayodhya district to Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram Airport on Tuesday.

Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, after the cabinet decision, took to Twitter and tweeted in Hindi, “Yogi UP government’s cabinet has approved the naming of Ayodhya airport as Maryada Purshotam Shriram Airport. Your state government is committed to positioning Shriram Lala’s city Ayodhya among the top religious places in the world.”

The naming of the Ayodhya airport was among the 21 different proposals that the UP Cabinet approved on Tuesday, including the ordinance Uttar Pradesh Vidhi Viruddh Dharm Samparivartan Pratishedh Adhyadesh 2020 (UP prohibition of unlawful religious conversion ordinance 2020)

“The government believes that there will be huge tourist traffic — both domestic and international — in Ayodhya when the construction of grand Ram temple is completed. The airport will further facilitate this,” said an official spokesman.

The government has decided in December 2021 as a deadline for the completion of the project. The Yogi-led government has approved approx. a sum of Rs 525 crore for the airport construction from which Rs.300 crore has already been spent. The land acquisition process for the airport in Ayodhya is currently underway.

The Uttar Pradesh government is focusing on developing Ayodhya as a global religious tourism site for which the government is also engaged in the process of hiring a global consultant for the overall development of Ayodhya—infrastructure, conservation, tourism, etc.
