Class 10 exams cancelled; Class 12 exams postponed

In a big relief to students, the central government cancelled the CBSE board exams for Class 10 and postponed Class 12 exams which were scheduled for May-June in the wake of the coronavirus crisis on Wednesday.

Education Minister Pokhriyal Nishank announced that the result for  CBSE class 10 students will be prepared on the basis of an “objective criterion” to be developed by the Board. Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams.

He also informed that for the Class 12 exam, the government will review the situation on June 1 to decide fresh dates and make an announcement at least two weeks before the start of the exam.

The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today in the presence of Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, Education Secretary, and other government officials.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister said that the well being of the students has to be the top priority for the Government and thus took the decision.

Earlier, many chief ministers including Delhi CM had urged PM Modi to postpone the Class 10 and 12 board exams in the wake of rising number of Covid-19 cases.
