Hathras opened for media again; Section 144 still in force

The district administration has finally reopened the borders of Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras on Saturday and has allowed the media to enter the village.

Earlier, on Thursday, police had set up barricades and blocked all the access paths to prevent any outsider to enter the village. The officials had stated the ongoing investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) as the reason behind the restrictions.

While responding to media, Sadar Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Prem Prakash informed that as the investigation process by SIT is partially completed, the restrictions on the media inside the village has now been lifted.

“Only the media is allowed right now. When orders come in to allow delegations, we will let everybody know. All allegations about phones of the family members being taken away or confining them in their homes are absolutely baseless” the SDM said.

However, still, more than five persons are not allowed to gather as Section 144 of CrPC is still imposed.

The media wasn’t allowed to enter the village or to meet the victim’s family since October 1.
