Manmohan: No gyan for Uddhav Thackeray; no recollection of 2013 Uttarakhand?

Manmohan Singh has written a letter to prime minister Narendra Modi, advising him how to tackle Covid-19 pandemic surge only to open himself to some savage attack on social media.

The former prime minister was reminded of the devastating cloudburst in Uttarakhand in 2013 which had nearly 6,000 people killed and millions devastated of their livelihood. Manmohan Singh was India’s prime minister and an embarrassing incident was brought to life on social media.

“In 2013, Manmohan Singh held back relief during Uttarakhand cloudburst so that Rahul (Gandhi) could flag off the trucks. He didn’t even give the trucks enough money for diesel. Trucks stopped midway before reaching Uttarakhand. Today Dr Singh is giving gyaan on how to handle global pandemic.”

There is a documented India Today story on the designated trucks failing to reach the destination in Uttarakhand. Read on:

“In a major embarrassment for the Congress, trucks carrying relief material for Uttarakhand flood victims, which were flagged off with much fanfare by party chief Sonia Gandhi and scion Rahul Gandhi on Monday are yet to reach the victims.

“The vehicles have, can you believe it, run out of diesel and are stranded in Rishikesh and Dehradun.

“According to reports, the trucks ran out of diesel and drivers didn’t have money to refuel. Each driver was handed Rs 2,000 cash for fuel, which is apparently over.

“In a ceremony organised at the party headquarters in New Delhi on Monday, Sonia Gandhi had flagged off 24 trucks in addition to 125 carriers for the flood-ravaged state.”

The story of the flag off itself is interesting. In the images in public domain, Sonia Gandhi is seen waving the Congress flag—and not Indian tricolour—while flagging off the trucks for relief mission.

One twitterati wondered in all these months, since Maharashtra is the “bad boy” of Covid-19 pandemic from Day One, what stopped Manmohan Singh from penning a letter to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, an obvious dig since Thackeray’s Shiv Sena is in alliance with Gandhis Congress in the state.

A story meanwhile has surfaced which alleges that 250 ventilators in Punjab are lying unused while the Congress leaders are creating a media storm on “no ventilator, no oxygen, no vaccines”, led by Rahul Gandhi himself.

Another twitterati took a shot at Manmohan Singh given his one past remark that Muslims have the first right on India’s resources.

“His suggestion would be like…

Book all the hospitals for peace fools;

Convert all mandirs to masjids;

Give all the money from PM Care Fund to peacefools”
