Russian forces now closing in on Kiev; air raid sirens heard in multiple cities

Russian forces have begun to gallop towards Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. As per report, air raid sirens were heard in several cities including Odessa, Dnipro and Kharkiv besides Kiev.

Meanwhile, several fires were reported in Kyiv Oblast after the Russian attacks overnight. An oil depot was on fire in Vasylkiv, 36 km south of Kyiv and another was hit in the village of Kryachky.

In the village of Kvitneve, a warehouse for frozen food products caught fire after Russian shelling, reported Kyiv Independent.

Yesterday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that 7,144 people have been evacuated from a number of Ukrainian cities in 24 hours

“7,144 people have been rescued from Enerhodar, Bucha, Hostomel and Kozarovychi,” Zelenskyy said in a video address on his Telegram channel.

As Russia widens its bombardment and talks between Moscow and Kyiv seemingly going nowhere, Zelensky’s pleas for NATO to intervene have grown increasingly desperate.

US President Joe Biden on Friday again ruled out direct action against nuclear-armed Russia, warning that it would lead to “World War III”.
