Shakib Al Hasan receives death threat for ‘Kali Puja’; asks for forgiveness

Ace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who was in West Bengal for two days, recently received death threats from a Bangladeshi youth named Mohsin Talukdar on Facebook live, accusing the cricketer of blasphemy.

On Sunday, Mohsin Talukdar, a fundamentalist resident of Shahpur Talukder Para in Sylhet started a Facebook live at 12.06 p.m. and reportedly threatened Shakib for inaugurating a Kali Puja in Kolkata, India.

Claiming that Shakib’s behavior had “hurt Muslims”, the young man said he would even walk from Sylhet to Dhaka to kill him if necessary.

He said everything was fine and he was happy when Shakib went and performed Hajj however when he allegedly went to India and inaugurated a Kali Puja program it has made him upset and “I will hack him to death if I see him”

He also expressed anger at Shakib for misbehaving with a fan who wanted a selfie with him.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan police, B.M. Ashraf Ullah Taher informed that they have handed over the video to the cyber forensic team. They have also registered a case and soon will take legal action against Mohsin.

“This is a defamation and an attempt to destroy communal harmony.” The video has been removed from Facebook”, said the police.

Mohsin’s family members claim he was mentally challenged and they are ashamed of what he said. They apologized to Shakib and also called him the pride of Bangladesh.

Meanwhile Shakib apologized for hurting the sentiments of his supporters. He also denied inaugurating puja mandap and sought forgiveness.

‘Media, social media everywhere it was flooded that I went to Kolkata to inaugurate a puja ceremony which actually was not the reason behind my visit and I did not inaugurate puja,’ Shakib said during the Facebook live.

‘Puja was inaugurated by Firhad Hakim, mayor of Kolkata. In my invitation card it was clearly mentioned that I was not the chief guest for puja,’ he said.

“Being a practising Muslim I always try to follow the religious customs. Please forgive me if I have done anything wrong” he said.
