(Veeresh Malik, a regular in these pages, was a co-petitioner with actress Juhi Chawla on a query on 5G radiation at the Honourable Delhi High Court. Malik is more determined to pursue the cause of getting information on 5G and relevant new technologies.)
The last few months have been very turbulent, the last few days even more so, and I therefore try to make a short, quick article on, fittingly, the World Environment Day 2021. Some of the questions I have been asked is in context with 5G and radiation. The “we” here includes some of my more famous friends, who I go back to childhood days as neighbours.
Q-Are we against new technologies, including 5G?
Ans-Not at all. We have been earlier adopters and beneficiaries of many new technologies, especially in electronics and communications.
Q-Do we think that 5G is harmful?
Ans-That’s exactly what we are asking the Government to tell us, but they appear to be evasive.
Q-Who appears to be evasive?
Ans-The Science and Engineering Research Board, or SEGRB for short, is not providing us the information we ask for.
Q-So why don’t you put a grievance to the Government?
Ans-Once something has been brought up using the RTI option, a Public Grievance can not be filed on the same subject, that is defined.
Q-So what are the options left?
Ans-In a similar situation in 2005, I approached the Delhi High Court, as that is the next step.
Q-What happened then?
Ans-I received a decision in 2010, which went on to become a Citation.
Q-What happened at Delhi High Court this time?
Ans-I have not seen the Judgement as yet so I can not provide a response, but I have and shall always have full faith in our Judiciary.
Q-What next?
Ans-We continue. My present co-activists and I are all of zero-restart refugee stock. India has been very kind to our families, enabled us to grow strong, This soil, this land, is mother. The air here is my soul. We shall do our utmost to protect it to the best of our abilities.
Q-What is #showusthedata all about?
And-It is the core element of our efforts in getting the information on radiation from our Government.
Q-Why does the mainstream media appear to be so much against you?
Ans-Till today, I have not spotted one decent science correspondent who is “against us”. The rest of them, what can I say, maybe they feel that Rs 20 lakhs could have been used better on a junket for them or a press conference with wine and food?
Q-Are you feeling like a lone soldier?
Ans-Quite the contrary. There is a huge groundswell of support for matters pertaining to health and environment – especially from the more aware parts of India.
Q-Is anybody funding you?
Ans-Absolutely not.
